Meet Fred Butryn and his Harley

2/2/2015

GET TO KNOW SOLAR TECHNOLOGY

Solar Technology is lucky to have many employees that are talented craftsmen, and we admire their skills and find their hobbies interesting. For example, casebuilder Fred Butryn has completely rebuilt a vintage 1974 stock Harley Davidson Sportster into an impressive custom bike in his spare time.

Fred’s redone Harley: redone except for the frame.

This was Fred’s first motorcycle project, but he was prepared, having grown up watching his dad work on motorcycles. Fred rebuilt the engine, changed the ignition from a points system to electronic, re-did the camshaft and pistons, and added new fenders, gas tank and paint. What he didn’t replace, he cleaned and polished. The project took 2 to 3 years, and the result is remarkable.

The original bike: a 1974 Sportster

Fred joined SolarTechnology seven years ago, after working at a machine shop and as a maintenance supervisor. He started in the assembly line, then was selected to specialize in building cases; a demanding position that requires precision and a high skill level.

His wife Dawn gets to ride the custom bike, as Fred now owns a 2006 Harley Davidson Fat Boy (Screaming Eagle edition) that needs little work done. Skilled craftsmen like Fred are the backbone of our shop, and each one is dedicated to making Solar Technology products the best.
