He knew that he could innovate a better product. He could develop equipment powered by a technologically-advanced solar energy system that would require no fuel, no maintenance, and would be quiet and clean.
So he went to work in the garage of his rented house in Allentown, PA and with the help and support of his wife, Diane, Solar Technology, Inc. was born. Drawing on his electrical engineering and computer science background, Byron designed and built the world’s first arrow board that derived 100% of its energy requirements from the sun.
Nearly two decades later, solar power is the industry standard for running portable traffic control equipment.
Over the years, SolarTech has continued to lead the industry in technology advances. From the first full-matrix LED signs in 1998 to free communications to all message and arrow boards in 2017.
